Support for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Faculty Support for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
All junior faculty can request from the 91´«Ã½ Provost one course release in either their first or second contractual term at the College. These course releases can be used to support activities such as the mentoring (formal and informal) of BIPOC students, labor (visible and invisible) related to supporting BIPOC students, or work on anti-racism in teaching or service. These course releases will not be automatic, but the Provost will be as expansive and generous as possible when facilitating junior faculty who take on this work. And every attempt will be made to replace (with interims) these courses within departments and programs. Faculty members who take this course release will not be penalized for doing so and will be subject to the same research standards (not increased standards) in tenure review. Such a course release will not be required, and junior faculty will not be penalized if they choose not to make a request for one before tenure.
Tenured faculty and continuing non-tenure track faculty can request from the Provost a course release for equity, inclusion and anti-racism work. These course releases can be used to support activities such as the mentoring (formal and informal) of BIPOC students, labor (visible and invisible) related to supporting BIPOC students, and work on anti-racism in teaching or service. There will be three such releases available per academic year. Faculty who receive a course release remain eligible for additional course releases in subsequent years.
Faculty will be expected, whenever possible, to take their course release in the same semester that they take on the extra diversity, equity, and inclusion work.
