I want some color in my life by Eunju Hwang

Part of the Flexner Lectureship Series

Established in honor of Mary Flexner, a 91´«Ã½ graduate of the class of 1895, this year's Flexner Lecturer is Mindy Thompson Fullilove '71, a social psychiatrist and professor of urban policy and health at The New School. Here are Mindy Fullilove's thoughts about this third lecture in her lecture series:

"It worked for Homer and it’s working for K-drama – the 16 or so dramatic episodes form a story of recovery. Such stories rely on the juxtaposition of the ordinary with the preposterous, Cyclops or time-travel, here represented by Eunju Hwang’s painting of a Zebra with a magenta mane. K-drama is able to use every trick in the book to be, well, dramatic. Despite – or maybe because of – the crazy fusion of the usual with the unbelievable, we recognize something of our own dilemmas in these stories. This lecture will explore K-drama as a modern heir of The Odyssey, and perhaps other classical epic forms, and shows the process of recovery as they do. I will explore this process in The King’s Affection."

Refreshments will be served.
